Another decent week of picks, 8-5-2 ATS.  The NFL sure is exciting this year - do you remember as many return TDs this early in the season?

Titans at Saints
Everybody is waiting for the Saints to get it going.  I am a little shaky on them.  Their O is just not working.  They are passing too much and don't have the balance they had last year.  Hopefully, Deuce is ramped up to 20 carries this week. If they can do that, they can control the game. It's a must win situation.

Double Dipper Monday

What's better than a day long football sunday?  Boy that was a good day. Tons of big performances - Romo and Eli, Plaxico and Moss, Gates, even Ronald Curry.  2 monday night games featuring division rivals is just the cherry on top of a great first week.

Ravens at Bengals
This is a tough one. Both teams have high expectations. All indications are that the Ravens got better on offense, while the Bengals still have plenty of questions on D.  I expect some scoring, probably in the upper 40's total. The Ravens will score and I think the Bengals will score just enough to eak it out.

Cardinals at 49ers
Another tough one.  Everybody thinks these are the 2 up and comers in the NFC. I know the Cards have big holes on D. The Niners are solid on both sides and I think the home field wins out here.

Dome Battle

I have been a bit delinquent for the past 9 months, but the season has got me fired up. Here we go:

Saints at Colts
This is going to be a track meet, no if's and or but's.  I think the Saints are actually better this year. They have 1 year in the Payton system. They also have another year of personnel improvements. Don't mistake their defense for the Ravens, but their front 7 is solid.  The Colts seem to have some holes on D, but they always do.  This will go blow for blow and I think the line is a little rich.  Colts eek it out, but don't cover. Colts 38-Saints 35.

The Vikings and Packers were probably not happy preparing in 4 days, but they sure will be happy at home on Christmas Eve and Christmas, while everyone else is playing.  This one is easy. Tmoney NFL Week 14 Picks

It was somewhat fun to watch my Steelers stomp the Browns in the cold. I am sure few outside Pittsburgh tuned in for that thriller.  I am sure it has been said before, but Bryant Gumbel is terrible at play-by-play.  It is like watching ice melt. He is so boring.  He did have 2 terrible Gumbelism's during the game that maybe me laugh. He asked Chris how it felt "attitudinally" to be losing like the Browns. Don't think that one is in the dictionary.  Then, he refered to Cowher's opinion of Ike Taylor as being in "Chateau Bow Wow".  At least a few laughs for a terrible production.

Cross Border Rivalry

Another Thursday night divisional match-up, this one involving my Steelers.

Browns at Steelers
I am biased. You know that. But here are the facts. Derek Anderson is making his first start probably on the road against a tough, complicated D.  THe Steelers are banged up as well. Both safeties are back-ups, one is a rookie. Both receivers are back-ups, one is a rookie.  Outsiders might see this more like the close game in Cleveland. I see it more like the game against Tampa last week. The Steelers won't light up the board, but they will score. Their D will limit Cleveland to next to nothing (like they did in Cleveland where the Browns scored on an INT return and had great field position off very good kick returns - go look at the stats).  The Steelers win this ugly and easy.

Ravens at Bengals
So it seems that the public is on the Bengals.  I was not sold on the Ravens until I watched them dismantle the Steelers last week. They had all the great defense they have had in the past, plus McNair gives them the presence at QB. They dominated both sides of the ball and could not be stopped. I just can't see how the Bengals swiss cheese defense can stop them.  I like the Ravens to win outright.

The other Red team won last night, and now the Big East contenders are all f'd up.  The regular season is almost over.

NC St. at Clemson
NC St. keeps losing, but not by much. The D is solid and they play competive. I was never sold on Clemson. This is a close one.

Raiders at Seahawks
This one is hard to call. Are the Raiders really improving?  Can Seneca Wallace hold it together? I don't know the answers to either. What I do think is that the Raiders D is on the upswing and playing with some attitude.  Seattle is missing it's starting QB and RB.  This game will come down to mistakes and who makes them. I am not sure the Raiders O can do much, but can the Seahawks do anything either? I am rolling with the points here, but this one ain't pretty.

The Ravens proved me wrong last week and showed they can score and dominate.  This is a huge game in the AFC North and the Bengals need it to get back on top.  I like them to come out of the funk.

I cannot remember the last time we had this good of game on Thursday night that actually means something.

West Virginia at Louisville
This is going to be a good one.  High octane passing vs. high octane running with the BCS on the line. It's hard to see an edge here so you have to go with your gut.  Louisville has stumbled at times this year and they have had some injuries. They have choked when they have been here in the recent past (remember South Florida?).  For me, the edge is the physicality (that sounds like a Ron Jaworski word) of the Mountaineers.  They showed it in the Sugar Bowl last year and I think they will show it tonight.

This should be a pretty good game and a good barometer to see if the Vikings are real.  They are not going to put up a lot of points, that is for sure. But they won' t make many mistakes.  This going to be a low-scoring grind out game.  I like the team with the loud, frenzied home crowd and the athletic defense.

Eastern Showdown

I was in Vegas yesterday and I layed down 6 bets on the early games, and against my better judgement, a 5-point 6-game teaser on the same games:

Panthers +3 Push
Packers +5.5 Win
Pats -5.5 Win
Texans +8 Win
Chiefs +5.5 Win
Steelers -2.5 Big Loss

Not only did the antics at the end of the Steeler's game cost me my sanity and interest in the rest of the season, but it cost me pretty big on the 8-1 payout I would have got if Jeff Reed is allowed to kick the field goal at the end of regulation. I have to say the 10-second run-off rule is the dumbest one in the book. The Seahawks proved it last week and rears its ugly head again this week.

Giants at Cowboys
This is an important game that will shape the outcome of the NFC East this year.  I think it will be a tight, physical game, and for that reason, I like the points here.  The Giants do enough to cover.

Chargers at Chiefs
The Chargers are better. However, Arrowhead is a tough place to play and the Chiefs need a win.  I see low scoring defensive battle.

The Panthers seem to have it going now and they have their 2nd AFC North road game in a row.  The Bengals can't get the O clicking and the line is banged up. Teams have learned you can run all over the Bengals.  I like the the Panthers in a close one.

The Skins aren't as bad as their record and the Colts aren't as good as their's.  This could look like the Titans or Jags game, Portis running wild to keep it within a score.

I am going to borrow some stats from USA Today.  WVU leads the nation in rushing.  UConn is ranked 105 against the run.  WVU will go up and down the field.

Texas is getting solid as the young QB matures this year. However, they are going into a hostile environment for Nebraska's most meaningful game in years.  I like the home dog.

The UCLA D has done well this year, but they are down possibly to the their 3rd QB as Patrick Cowan can't talk.  IF Washington and Oregon put up 30 points each, Brady Quinn will put up more.

I want to see Pitt do well and I was surprised to learn they are 6-1.  But I expect them to choke at some point and Saturday may be the day. Rutgers in undefeated and they want to prove they are for real.  Take the points in a close game.

UNC at Virginia
My theory is simple on this one. UVa is bad.  UNC is worse.  UNC is ranked 100th in scoring offense and 115th in scoring defense.   The Wahoos are at home, and although their offense ain't great, their defense is decent.  Just bet the better team.
